"It is a time of tons of verbiage, activity, and consumption.... But I do know that many who are driven to this life are desperately searching for those pockets of silence where they can root and grow. We must all hope that they find them." Mark Rothko, 1969

"Fume'e d'Amber Gris"
Well its been awhile. Life has been getting in the way of drawing lately, but I finally finished this study based on a large oil painting by Sargent that he did in 1880 while he was in North Africa. The study is about 9x12, charcoal and white pastel on Canson toned paper. Unfortunately, I'm still limited to my cell phone camera, so its a tad blurry.

This blew me away Martin ,impressive work!!
ReplyDeleteI recognize this piece by Sargeant. I think you've done a great job on it. I really do love your self portrait. I love sketching also, but don't do it as much as I should. Do you also paint?
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! Lokelani, I really need to get back to quick sketches, which I was doing every day. I've gotten rusty. I plan on starting painting this year, as soon as I clear a space. I've really focused on drawing as a foundation for painting, so we'll see....
